That’s How We Roll, Family Bowling

by Sandra Foyt on November 30, 2008

It was our last day on vacation with our family in Florida, and we had planned something special, a Nature Tour on the St. John River.  We were going to get close enough to the manatees to get splashed.  Instead, pouring rain threatened to make this trip a misery.

bowling3 Nothing if not flexible, we decided to give bowling a try.  It’s cheap, fun, and a sport that all of us could try, or at least most of us.

None of us will be winning any bowling trophies, and perhaps that’s what makes it so entertaining. From youngest to oldest, we are equally matched in bowling ability.

bowlingOur bowling style is, well, not exactly graceful.  I took a Bowling Class during my college days, and I tried to share my “expertise” with my kids.

They didn’t exactly catch on to the Three-Step-Magnificent-Flourish technique.  Then, again, my bowling skill wasn’t resulting in a top score.  They were just as likely to get a strike with their own, unique, bowling styles.

No one broke the 100 point barrier, but the player with the highest score, was preschooler Danielle.

We’re planning a rematch at the next family reunion, but we’ve heard that the next one might not be as friendly.  One of our relatives, missing this time, is rumored to have a 200+ point average.

My kids and I are already planning to get some practice, maybe a little coaching.  Not that we’re competitive, not at all.  We’ll just do our bit to keep us evenly matched.  Right.  Not competitive at all.  Friendly, even.
