Mommy Is On Vacation

lake_placid2 It’s late on a Friday morning, and I’m smiling, almost giddy with delight.  I’m wearing my pink ice-skating elephants pajamas, sitting on the sofa, sipping coffee and nibbling on a Yogurt Parfait, while looking out on snow falling picturesquely on Lake Placid.

Our luxurious waterfront Junior Suite at the High Peaks Resort, with its Jacuzzi tub and fireplace, commands a panoramic view through floor-to-ceiling windows that frame a scene straight out of a Currier & Ives print.

It’s a fabulous place to celebrate my 44th birthday, to relax and unwind, and yet I feel oddly guilty.  A whole weekend without my children?  It seems almost unnatural to not be on 24/7 Mommy Call.

The last time we traveled without the kids was for our 10th wedding anniversary, nearly five years ago.

The kids had a wonderful time then with Grandma’s and Grandpa’s undivided attention, dessert with every meal, sugar cereals for breakfast, and almost unlimited cartoon TV.  I’m sure that this weekend will be just as entertaining; filled with mall shopping, movie watching, and lots of chocolate ice cream with whipped cream on top.

I’m going to ignore the latent guilt pangs to enjoy a weekend where I don’t have to worry about the kids, or my husband.  While my other half attends his conference, I can lounge, read, and finally eat those bon bons.

I’m off, baby, living la vida loca!  See you next week.

I genuinely hope that your weekend in Lake Placid is refreshing, rejuvenating, romantic and memorable. Happy Birthday from all of here at the High Peaks Resort. Enjoy the resort, a good book, a delicious meal or two and of course the bon bons :)
