Moms Eat Fear For Breakfast

treetops There isn’t a moment  in a mom’s life when she doesn’t have to deal with fear.  From the trepidations of pregnancy, to disposing of the foulest emanations, to sending the kids off to slumber parties, I’ve had to learn to deal on a daily basis.

Although I’ve always been open to new experiences, as a mom I’ve been tested beyond my wildest expectations.

My daughter is a thrill seeker, a speed hound on double diamond ski slopes, who begs to go on all the scariest rides at amusement parks. She laughs in the face of danger.  Put her on a high ropes course, and she runs and jumps ahead, testing the boundaries of just how far she can go.

My son is still reasonably cautious, mostly looking before leaping, but it’s only a matter of time before he’s also begging to bungee jump from the Hoover Dam, just like his big sister.

It’s not always pretty, and sometimes I look totally ridiculous,  but I try to keep up with them on extreme adventures.  Lucky for me, I got over my fear of looking like an idiot a long time ago.

Oh that looks like a fun adventure. I have always wanted to do a ropes course, is it bad that I hope my daughter does girl scouts so I might get to LOL

Not at all. A lot of the adventures that I’ve gone have been directly due to Girl Scouts – including this whole blogging odyssey!

That looks like so much fun! I will have to see if we can take my daughter’s troop to do something like that.

How cool! That looks like so much fun. I would love to get to do half of the stuff they have for kids to do now days. I know I didn’t have as many opportunities as a kid.

I am petrified of heights. Just looking at these pics makes me queasy! You are a very brave mom! Just look at those smiling faces … the kids are loving it!

I was fearless like your daughter! Now I experience your same fears as a mom! Great post – will try the Extreme Adventure Course with my kids. It’s about 45 minutes from where I grew up!

Your kids were clearly having a ball! The look on their faces — as compared to looks the looks on most kids’ faces as they sit in class — is, for me, what homeschooling is all about.

Can I just say, though, that the crawling-on-ropes part did not look like any fun? ;)

What a beautiful family. The kids look so happy and excited–mommy, you are doing ALL the right things!

Thanks for the wonderful updates and if and when I decide to have some kids–I know where to send them for the summer!
ha!

Love ya!

Nando, how kind of you to offer to babysit! Quid pro quo, you know.
